Chinese New Year celebration is finally over at this 15th days.
Here in Indonesia, the Peranakan Chinese Indonesia, especially in Java Island, celebrate the closing day with eating Lontong. So it's called Lontong Cap Go Meh. In reality, there is no different with the usual lontong that eaten with opor ayam and sambal goreng ati (spicy beef liver). I heard that originally we were supposed to eat yuanxian aka rice ball on this day, but it's replaced with lontong (Chinese-Javanese adaptation, you know).
Why lontong?
I searched the answer on Google and here is what I found,
"It is believed that lontong cap go meh conceived good fortune symbols; the thick rice cake is considered richer compared to thin watery bubur (rice congee) which is often associated as food of poors. The elongated form of lontong also symbolize longevity. While eggs symbolize good fortune and yellowish turmeric-coconut milk broth represents gold and fortune"

And if you are not Indonesian or Southeast Asian citizen, you might never heard of lontong before. I am not good in explaining food, thus you can google it lol, but I am good enough to show you how it looks like
It is sooo yummy! Honestly, lontong opor is one of my fave Indonesian cuisine.
It is light but rich at the same time. The traditional spices and coconut oil will explode on your mouth mixed in with the sweetness, savory, and spiciness.
If you are somewhat going to visit Indonesia soon, just put it on your culinary list!
